Office and home are two separate visits, not one loop

This is the practical thing that costs people a day. Office furniture and home furniture sit in different buildings here, and buyers who wander the home halls looking for desks end up doing a lot of walking for nothing.

If you're buying both, plan them as two half days with a break in between. If you're only buying office, you can skip most of what everyone else photographs.

The redwood section is a different business entirely

Redwood and mahogany furniture in China isn't really the same market as the rest of the hall. It's closer to a commodity, priced substantially by the timber itself and the weight of it, and there's a domestic collector element that has nothing to do with export buying.

That matters for two reasons. First, prices here move with the timber market rather than with furniture demand, so a quote from last year tells you very little. Second, the species matters enormously and the names get translated loosely. If you're buying redwood seriously, get the species named specifically and in writing, because the gap between two things both described as rosewood can be very large.

For most export buyers this section is a curiosity. If that's you, walk it for twenty minutes and move on.

Why this is the sensible second day

The North area sits in the middle of the market in every sense. The build quality is genuinely decent, the prices are real, and the range is wide enough that you can shortlist across several categories in one building.

After a day of seeing the extremes, this is where a buying list actually gets made. That's not a coincidence. It's why the hall is busy on weekdays with people carrying folders rather than phones.

Size and layout

Published as about 200,000 square metres across four sections and thirteen buildings, arranged into ten themed halls including Modern and Luxury, Mahogany and New Chinese, Wood and North European, Western Classical, and Office Furniture.

Before you walk in

North and South are two different markets sharing a name on the sign. Tell a driver just Sunlink and you can lose an hour.

The wholesale halls here will take a single piece order without making it awkward, which surprises first time personal buyers.
